More than any other methodology, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has contributed to our knowledge about the organization of cells and the structure of viruses. TEM provides also detailed information about the life cycle of viruses in cells and how antiviral drugs interfere with different steps of viral infections. We are currently working with pharmaceutical companies to study the mechanism of action of antivirals and other therapeutic drugs using TEM.
